Class Informationjump to Class Schedule, Class Rates or Online Registration Bollywood & Indian Fusion DanceBollywood Dance is a modern cultural dance style that has evolved, and continues to evolve, over 100+ years. Song and dance are integral to the daily lives of our people—whether for religious or devotional purposes, celebrations and festivals, holidays or weddings. So much of our culture is marked in the rich variety of historical and contemporary dance styles. The term “bollywood dance” is commonly used to encompass semi-classical, regional, folk, bhangra, and everything in between—up to westernized contemporary bollywood dance.
Each Bollywood West dance class offers an aerobic, injury-preventative warm-up of body isolations and light cardio, integrated with stretching and preparatory technical exercises for indian dance movement. Following warm-up, students will learn choreography to popular Bollywood songs or Bhangra and Indi-Pop chart-toppers, progressing over several classes. Our contemporary Bollywood dance style is a fusion of traditional and folk dances, bhangra, classical Indian dance styles—like Kathak, Odissi, and Bharatanatyam, and western influences—jazz, hip hop, salsa, folklorico, afro-caribbean and modern dance. Every few classes we will learn a new song, ranging from folk or semi-classical style to the latest high-production bollywood blockbusters.
We recommend students bring a bottle of water to class. Comfortable and appropriate active/exercise attire suggested. You may dance in non-marking sneakers, jazz shoes, dansneakers, or barefoot, as you find most comfortable. Our classes are fun, casual, and informal. Feel free to ask questions anytime, sing along, or dress in Indian attire—whatever will help you get in the mood and have a great time! Our Bollywood classes are offered at both the beginner and advanced-beginner skill level, within the same class. Some prior dance experience, vocabulary or knowledge is helpful, though not required. We’re sorry, but single classes or drop-ins are not available. Please view our FAQ page for a more in-depth explanation of this policy. Class Schedule & Locations
